Beverly Emery
President
Bass Clarinet

Beverly has been performing with Lone Star Symphonic Band since February 2004, and has been a member of the Board since May of the same year. Originally from Oklahoma, she attended high school in Katy at Mayde Creek High School, where she was involved in marching and concert bands, and played in the local community 4th of July celebrations. Attending college on music scholarships, she received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Social Sciences, and works as a Routing Analyst for a Food Services Distributor.

Ed Hendrickson

Trombone

Ed Hendrickson, born and raised in Houston, began playing his trombone with the Lone Star Symphonic Band in 1993 when it was under the direction of Tom Stuchbery. Ed and his wife, Glenda, who plays the flute and oboe, attended Spring Woods High School in the Spring Branch School District. Ed then went to college at Sam Houston State University where he received a B. S. in Law Enforcement and Police Science. In 1974, Ed joined the Houston Police Department and retired as a Sergeant in the Robbery Division in January of 2011 after serving almost 37 years. He and his wife have been married since 1973 and have one son and two grandchildren. They are active members of their church at Westland Baptist Church and other activities include traveling, square dancing, and motorcycle riding.

Tammi Tuthill

Flute

Tammi has been with the Lone Star Symphonic Band since May of 2007 and has been a Board member since June of 2008. Originally from New York, she attended high school in Pasadena at Sam Rayburn High School where she was involved in the marching band, color guard, and concert band. She was also involved in the Foley's All-Star Band and also Rice University's The Mob both under the direction of Ken Dye. She majored in music at San Jacinto Community College and at Sam Houston State University but now works as a Department Administrator at an oil and gas servicing company.

Jerry Johnson
Secretary
Tuba

Jerry has been a member of the Lone Star Symphonic Band since January of 2008 and has been a member of the board since 2010. He was born in Houston and is a graduate of Mirabeau B. Lamar High School. He studied tuba under William Rose at the University of Houston, where he was a member of the Cougar Marching Band, University Concert Band, and the UH Cougar Brass. Jerry enlisted in the US Army and attended the US Army Element-Navy School of Music, where he continued his tuba studies under David Dorrough. After graduation, he was assigned to the First Cavalry Division Band, Ft Hood, TX and later assigned to the Sixth Infantry Division Band, Ft Wainwright, AK. Jerry received a BS in Criminal Justice with a minor in music from the University of Houston-Downtown and is currently a research investigator and computer technician.

Stephen B. Johnson

Euphonium

Stephen has been a member of the Lone Star Symphonic Band since November of 1999 and has been a member of the Board since 2000. He was born in Houston and attended school in Katy at James E. Taylor High School. He attended college at Texas Tech University, obtaining both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Accounting, with a Minor in Music Literature. At Texas Tech, Stephen was a member of the "Goin' Band from Raiderland," as well as a member of the University Concert Band and the "Court Jesters" Basketball Band. In addition to his service to the Band, he also volunteers as Orchestra Director at Memorial Lutheran Church in Katy. A licensed CPA, Stephen currently works as an Accountant for the Katy Independent School District.

Bill Brawn

Bass Trombone

Bill Brawn has served as band director in the public schools of Texas for 40 years full time, and 11 years part time. He has directed band in U.I.L. classifications ranging from AA through AAAAA. His bands were consistent sweepstakes winners in all classifications placing in the top 10 at state marching contest in 5A, 2A, and honor band in 2A, plus winning outstanding band awards at many state and national contests. Mr. Brawn's jazz bands were also winners at state and national contests. His band at Dobie High School was asked to perform at MENC. Bachelors and Masters degrees were earned, as well as teaching certificates ranging from elementary to superintendent. A member of Texas Bandmasters, Texas Music Educators, and Texas Music Adjudicators Associations, he judges and conducts clinics throughout the state.

R. Claude Burrows

Tuba

Claude began his serious playing in high school. In World War II he was deferred as an engineering student. In order to serve, Claude joined the Texas State Guard and was assigned to the band where he began playing professionally with some of the men in the band. Claude enrolled in Texas Tech and played in dance bands. He joined the Navy and served in the Navy Air Corps in the Gulf and Atlantic. Claude played in bands while serving in the Navy. He graduated from Tech and assisted area bands after graduation. Claude joined the Good Times Band, and the Lone Star Symphonic Band where he proudly serves on the board and will assist the band in any possible way.

Jason Johnson

Percussion

Jason Johnson had been playing the drums since he was 6 years old. Now approaching 30, he works in a warehouse for a compounding pharmacist supplier in Houston. He has been in the Lone Star Symphonic Band since November 2007, and was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2008. On the side, in addition to his service with the Lone Star Band he serves at Faith West Church in Katy, Texas playing the drums and helping out with the kids when he has a break from playing music. He also does magic shows for children's birthday parties and does close-up magic at his company's annual Spring picnic annually. Jason was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and he moved to Katy when he was 16 Months old. He graduated from Katy High School, and he majored in music at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. He currently lives in Stafford, Texas.

Joe Brown

Baritone Sax

Joe Brown grew up in Waller and played in the Waller High School Band from the time he was in the sixth grade. In 1960 he enrolled at the University of Texas as a Music Education major, saxophone principal. While at the University, he studied the saxophone under the tutelage of Raymond Schroeder, marched with the Longhorn Band under Vince DiNino and played with the university’s Symphonic Band under Richard Elsass. On weekends, he often played with dance bands including the Joe Gyetvai orchestra. In the years that followed, he worked first for Gulf Oil Corporation then Chevron Corporation after it acquired Gulf in 1985, retiring in 1999 with 35 years’ service. Since retiring he has returned happily to playing the baritone sax and has been a member of the Lone Star Symphonic Band since 2009.
